Get ready for the highly anticipated Tamil vigilante action film, Indian 2, directed by the acclaimed S. Shankar. The movie marks the second installment in the Indian film series and serves as a sequel to the 1996 classic. Kamal Haasan reprises his iconic role as Senapathy, a freedom fighter turned vigilante, who returns to India after two decades to combat corruption. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, and Priya Bhavani Shankar, among others. The story follows Senapathy as he joins forces with a group to tackle corruption in the country. Initially announced in September 2017, the project faced several delays due to an on-set accident and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the entry of Red Giant Movies as co-producers, filming resumed and wrapped up by March 2024. The technical team includes renowned names like Anirudh Ravichander, Ravi Varman, and A. Sreekar Prasad. Despite its highly anticipated release on July 12, 2024, in standard and IMAX formats, the film received negative reviews from critics, who praised Haasan's performance but criticized the outdated screenplay and lengthy runtime. Due to its extensive length, the film has been split into two parts, with the second installment, Indian 3, scheduled for release in 2025.
